• Australian Steel: Crafted from high-quality Australian steel materials, the Classic vertical bike rack was designed to withstand Australia’s harshest conditions.  We took it to the next level in 2021 by moving to DuraGal Steel, providing a superior level of strength, functionality and internal corrosion resistance compared to other racks that are only lightly zinc coated outside or use standard steel powder coat, both of which can rust badly from the inside out 😱
• Industrial Strength Powder-Coated Finish: From day one, we’ve used a tough industrial strength powder-coated finish to provide extra protection against rust and corrosion, ensuring your rack stays sharp and performs well for years. Our powder coating is completed professionally right here in North-East Victoria.

2. A bike rack that could genuinely take 5 bikes became reality and Aussie’s embraced it quickly!

• The Family Rack: The Classic vertical bike rack was the first bike rack that could truthfully transport five bikes without removing wheels or playing tetris.  
• Easy Access: The vertical design allows for quick and straightforward loading and unloading of bikes. No need to struggle with awkward angles—just slot in, and secure. We’ve made it even easier now with our Roll on and Roll Off loading… taking the stress out of lifting bikes over your head and the dangers of bikes toppling on you when fully loaded.
• Tilting Feature: Always a key feature of Shingleback Vertical Bike Racks.  Our Classic rack required the user to remove a travelling pin and unload the bikes before lowering the rack to the ground.  This was a safety requirement – after all there aren’t that many of us that can bench press over a 100kg when standing up!   Right from the start we knew this was a feature we could improve on. Shingleback released its’ original, foot latch mechanism (patent pending) and it completely revolutionised the bike rack industry.  Access to the boot of many vehicles is now achievable without the need to remove your bikes.
• Fits Most Bike Types: The original rack was versatile enough to accommodate a wide range of mountain bikes and with a couple of easy workarounds, Road Bikes and bikes with 20” wheels. With innovation at the heart of everything we do, along with a passion for problem-solving, our new range released in 2021 included customised accessories to provide customers with an all-rounder bike rack.

 

3. Custom Accessories Exclusive to Shingleback Off Road

At Shingleback Off Road we have never been big fans of products that have just one use.  The Classic vertical bike rack was quickly followed by many more custom innovations designed and engineered by Andrew that made the rack work that much harder for the customer:

• Light Board: As leaders in the vertical bike rack industry, we’ve developed an accessory that maintains visibility on the road. This accessory features rear taillights and a spot for your auxiliary plate and works well when your rack is full-loaded. The beauty of a separate light board is that you can affix it at the correct height to ensure compatibility with road authority regulations and guidelines.
• Swing-Arm: As one of our game-changers, this accessory was created in response to customer feedback, enhancing the vertical bike rack’s functionality. The Swing-Arm swings left or right, making it easier to use with vehicles that have swinging doors or a tailgate.
• Trolley Stand: In May 2017 we launched the Trolley Stand (now upgraded to a Dolly Stand) to ensure our users of Shingleback Off Road vertical bike racks get more use of their rack on and off the car, especially when it comes to storing your bikes in a garage!

4.  Always Innovating – key features that make Shingleback vertical bike racks #1

In 2021 Shingleback released its new range of vertical bike racks and in the true spirit of continuous improvement, a great range of custom designed accessories followed:

• Roadie Inserts: these inserts are high quality and fit the custom Shingleback Cradle like a glove (patent pending)
• BMX Insert and Extender for 20” wheels: creating a shorter cradle to take care of the smaller bikes. Bonus – the Extender can be used on its own for long DH bikes or small Road bikes!
• Ski Clamps: We’ve also expanded into other sports, including skiing and water skiing, with proprietary accessories designed specifically for these activities. One rack, many adventures.
