Anti Rattle Devices

Exploring Shingleback Off Road’s Anti-Rattle Devices: Bolts, Clamps, and Shims

So which one do you need for your car?

When it comes to off-road adventures or even everyday commuting, one of the most annoying things is the constant rattling and jostling of your gear. This not only causes discomfort but can also lead to damage over time. Fortunately, Shingleback Off Road has a range of anti-rattle devices designed to keep your rack secure to your vehicles tow bar and your journeys smooth. In this article, we’ll explore Shingleback Off Road’s three anti-rattle solutions: the classic Anti Rattle Clamp (included with each bike rack), the Anti Rattle Shim (optional accessory) and Anti Rattle Bolt (optional accessory).

1. Anti Rattle Clamp (included with Bike Rack Purchase)

The Anti-Rattle Clamp is a versatile solution designed to securely stabilise your bike rack to your vehicles tow bar. Its straightforward and well-proven design is compatible with all our standard and optional modular tow bar tubes to ensure an optimal fit between your vehicle and the Shingleback Vertical Bike Rack.

As Andrew from Shingleback mentions, some internal anti-rattle devices have limitations, often offering only one hole. If this doesn’t align with your vehicle’s requirements, you might be out of luck. However, the anti-rattle clamp, provided by Shingleback Off Road, offers a more flexible solution to suit a wider variety of vehicle tow bars so you can achieve a better fit.

For those with shallow hitch receivers or vehicles equipped with a spare wheel on the rear door, such as Toyota Prados and Mitsubishi Pajeros, we offer a selection of optional modular tow bar tubes. These tubes are designed to ensure the best fit and full utilisation of your Shingleback Vertical Bike Rack, providing flexibility for various vehicle types.

If you happen to own a Toyota Landcruiser 200 or 300 series, please note that you will need to purchase the optional Landcruiser Anti Rattle Clamp separately to fit with your tow bar.

2. Anti Rattle Shim (optional accessory)

The Anti-Rattle Shim serves as an optional accessory designed to complement your Anti-Rattle Clamp, effectively addressing any excess play in your tow bar. Given the variations in size among vehicle manufacturers and aftermarket hitch receivers, the shim offers a cost-effective solution to eliminate unwanted movement.

3. Anti Rattle Bolt (optional accessory)

The Anti-Rattle Bolt serves as a replacement for the hitch pin on your vehicle. Given that Shingleback tow bar tubes are modular, you have the flexibility to select from multiple mounting holes, allowing you to secure the rack as close as possible to your vehicle and a rock solid fit. It’s worth noting that this optional accessory is used in conjunction with the Anti-Rattle Clamp and Anti-Rattle Shim for optimal performance.
